Pre-K for a Day fundraiser

The Pre-K for a Day Fundraiser is back. For the second time, Smart Beginnings will be providing local community officials the opportunity to go back to preschool. During the month of April, community leaders will have the chance to spend time in a pre-school environment learning everything a child would normally learn in their classroom or daycare center. They will experience the education of a preschooler first-hand. These community leaders will be showing their support and commitment to bettering early childhood education in the Shenandoah Valley by brushing up on their ABCs and going back to the basics.

Forensic psychologists and psychiatrists are ethically bound to be impartial, to look only at the evidence before them, when performing evaluations or providing expert opinions for the court. But new research from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and Sam Houston State University suggests that the paycheck some courtroom experts receive influences their evaluations.

Tim Kaine tours defense installations, meets with military families in Hampton Roads

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, toured military bases in Hampton and Virginia Beach today where he discussed the importance of budget certainty for the defense community. In the afternoon, Kaine met with military families in Norfolk to discuss steps to increase support for servicemembers and their families as well as ease the transition from active duty to civilian life and employment.

VMI rallies, knocks off Coastal Carolina, 10-9

The VMI Keydets jumped out to a 8-1 lead, rallied late to force extra innings and then saw a dropped fly ball by Coastal Carolina Chanticleer outfielder Alex Buccilli allow the winning run to score in the 10th inning as the Keydets prevailed, 10-9, in a back and forth battle Saturday at Gray-Minor Stadium in Lexington, Va. The game was the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader and marked the 250th career victory for VMI head coach Marlin Ikenberry.
