UVa. broke open a tight game with a 23-0 first-half run en route to blasting Hampton, 69-40, on Tuesday in Charlottesville. The Cavs (5-1) got off to a sluggish start against the Pirates. A jumper by Hampton’s Dionte Adams at the 9:59 mark tied the game at 16. A Joe Harris three-pointer on Virginia’s next possession gave UVa. the lead, but it was still 19-16 ‘Hoos at the 7:48 media timeout.

UVa. women’s basketball suffers a 68-58 road loss at West Virginia

The Virginia women’s basketball team (3-2) suffered a 68-58 road loss to West Virginia (4-1) at the WVU Coliseum on Sunday. The Cavaliers found most of their offense from beyond the arc, making 10 three-pointers, shooting 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from long range. Senior guard Ataira Franklin had the first 20-point game of the season for the Cavaliers, finishing with 23.
