U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine today applauded the confirmation of Marilyn Tavenner of Virginia as the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) by a vote of 91 to 7. Tavenner is the first Senate-confirmed CMS Administrator since 2006. CMS oversees Medicare and Medicaid and is charged with health care services for millions of Americans.

Lynchburg Hillcats see four-game winning streak come to end

The Lynchburg Hillcats had their four-game winning streak snapped on a 7-2 loss to the Frederick Keys Tuesday night in the first of a three-game series at City Stadium. Jarett Miller went five scoreless innings before giving up two runs with two outs in the sixth to take his first loss of the season. Matt Lipka hit a two-run double with two outs in the ninth to spoil the shutout.

Tim Kaine calls for end to GOP obstruction on budget

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, took to the Senate floor again today to call for an end to Republican obstruction on the budget. In his remarks, Kaine noted the proposed budget would replace the sequester cuts in the next fiscal year which have caused 800,000 furloughs of Department of Defense civilian employees this year, including 90,000 in Virginia.
