Here in rural Virginia, we switch between Democrats and Republicans, but they all vote for war … until now. Our recently unseated Congress member, Tom Periello, is rallying humanitarian warriors to bomb nations because we care. His replacement, Robert Hurt, met with a group of constituents on Thursday and indicated that he had “grave, grave concerns” about voting for any attack on Syria.

This weekend will mark the debut of a new television show produced by the Virginia athletics department titled Chasing Uncompromised Excellence. It replaces the Cavalier Sports Weekly television show that aired from August to April each year.

The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank announces today the hiring of Karen J. Ratzlaff as its new Chief Philanthropy Officer. She succeeds Michael McKee, who left that position to lead the Food Bank as CEO in May.

The Atlantic Coast Conference today (Aug. 28) announced the league’s women’s basketball schedule for the 2013-14 season. Virginia will face each of the 14 conference opponents, including newcomers Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse, during the 16-game league schedule.
