Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Va.) introduced legislation along with Congressman Phil Roe (R-Tenn.) that would level the playing field for generic drug user fees so that smaller manufacturers would be expected to pay fees that would reflect the relative size of their firms compared to drug company giants.

With unemployment remaining unacceptably high across the Fifth District, Congress must focus on passing legislation that will spur job creation for Americans. Fifth District Virginians know that the federal government’s role is to promote policies that create opportunities and increase access to capital for our entrepreneurs and small businesses to hire and expand.

During the month of November, the national gas price average fell to $3.18 per gallon on Nov. 12, which was the lowest average since Feb. 22, 2011, before climbing as much as 10 cents to reach $3.27 per gallon on Dec. 2. This week the national gas price average dropped to $3.26 cents per gallon Friday.

Gov. Bob McDonnell today encouraged Virginians to prepare for a potentially disruptive early-season ice storm that will affect the Commonwealth this Sunday. While exact impacts are still somewhat uncertain, Virginians should make preparations now for possible power outages, that could be lengthy if large amounts of ice accumulate.

Apologists for embattled UVa. football coach Mike London begin their defense of the Cavs’ awful 2-10 2013 season by pointing out how young the team was this year – with just seven seniors seeing action. The notion advanced along with this defense is that London’s first three recruiting classes, all in or around the Rivals Top 25, will get better with age.

This weekend, the Obama administration announced that the federal health insurance exchange website is now “accessible for the vast majority of users” after two months of glitches, errors, and bugs. While the website may be more accessible, the administration has not addressed another major issue presented by the launch of this website.

Despite playing a man down for the final 89 minutes, the Virginia men’s soccer team defeated Marquette, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in the NCAA tournament’s round of 16 at Klöckner Stadium. The eighth-seeded Cavaliers (12-5-5) advance to play the winner of the UCLA-Connecticut match next weekend in the NCAA quarterfinals.

The Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of December, is exhibiting the watermedia paintings of Staunton artist, Billie Rosenburger, whose mediations on color yield cheerful bright imagery. An Opening Reception and Artist Talk will be held Dec. 7, 6-8 p.m., and the public is encouraged to come and meet the artist.
