Virginia releases 2014 men’s lacrosse schedule

Virginia men’s lacrosse head coach Dom Starsia announced his team’s schedule for the 2014 season today. The schedule features seven home games. Among UVa’s opponents in 2014 are seven teams that played in last season’s NCAA tournament. The 85th season of Virginia men’s lacrosse will feature the earliest start in the program’s history when Loyola comes to Klöckner Stadium on Feb. 6.

Virginia Trees for Clean Water

Citizen groups, educational institutions, private citizens and local governments within the Chesapeake Bay watershed are encouraged to apply for grants under the “Virginia Trees for Clean Water” program. Grants are awarded through this program for planting riparian buffers or trees in neighborhoods and communities. The grant covers projects to be undertaken and completed during the spring and early fall of 2014.

Speed limit to increase on stretch of I-64 in Albemarle County

The speed limit on a 12-mile section of Interstate 64 in western Albemarle County will increase from 65 to 70 miles per hour on Thursday, Dec. 19. The new speed zone will run from just east of the Greenwood Station Road overpass (Route 690) at milepost 106.1 to just west of the Route 29 interchange at milepost 117.7.

AAA: Gas prices continue to fall

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 13 of 16 days (through Friday) since Thanksgiving. This follows a streak of 15 consecutive daily increases leading up to the holiday. This week the national gas price average dropped a penny to $3.25 cents per gallon Friday, six cents more expensive than one month ago.

Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Va.) introduced legislation along with Congressman Phil Roe (R-Tenn.) that would level the playing field for generic drug user fees so that smaller manufacturers would be expected to pay fees that would reflect the relative size of their firms compared to drug company giants.

McDonnell: Virginia preparing for possible significant ice storm

Gov. Bob McDonnell today encouraged Virginians to prepare for a potentially disruptive early-season ice storm that will affect the Commonwealth this Sunday. While exact impacts are still somewhat uncertain, Virginians should make preparations now for possible power outages, that could be lengthy if large amounts of ice accumulate.
