I came clean on this a couple of weeks ago, making my first post on the site devoted to all things UVa. athletics, about 15 years too late, now that I think about it. That’s roughly how long I’ve been reading the site, basically on a daily basis 10 months a year, August through June.

Down a man, UVa. men’s soccer advances to Elite Eight with 3-1 win over Marquette

Despite playing a man down for the final 89 minutes, the Virginia men’s soccer team defeated Marquette, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in the NCAA tournament’s round of 16 at Klöckner Stadium. The eighth-seeded Cavaliers (12-5-5) advance to play the winner of the UCLA-Connecticut match next weekend in the NCAA quarterfinals.

The last time UVa. football defeated Virginia Tech was 2003. This is before Facebook, so there’s something to ponder. Virginia football fans haven’t been able to post to Facebook, We beat Tech! Mike London was on the sidelines in Charlottesville that day as the defensive line coach under Al Groh.

Remember when Logan Thomas was a sure-fire first-round NFL draft pick? Thomas had a banner year as a sophomore at Virginia Tech, when he threw for 3,013 yards and accounted for 30 touchdowns. Hard as it is to believe, Thomas’ numbers two years later are not that much better than the much-maligned David Watford at UVa.

UVa. basketball routs Hampton, 69-40

UVa. broke open a tight game with a 23-0 first-half run en route to blasting Hampton, 69-40, on Tuesday in Charlottesville. The Cavs (5-1) got off to a sluggish start against the Pirates. A jumper by Hampton’s Dionte Adams at the 9:59 mark tied the game at 16. A Joe Harris three-pointer on Virginia’s next possession gave UVa. the lead, but it was still 19-16 ‘Hoos at the 7:48 media timeout.
