Virginia got out to a slow start, then lost second-leading scorer Latasha Lattimore to injury a minute into the second quarter, on the way to a 75-58 loss to Cal in the second round of the 2025 ACC Tournament on Thursday.

UVA (17-15), the 10th seed, had advanced to the second round with a 64-50 win over Pitt on Wednesday, the fourth win in a row for the Cavaliers, a stretch that included a road upset at then-#8 North Carolina on Sunday.

Playing their third game in five days, against a fresh Cal (25-7), the seven seed, which had a first-round bye, Virginia could not overcome the sluggish start out of the gate – the Golden Bears led 9-0 two and a half minutes in.

It was 24-13 Cal after one, and 26-13 at the 9:09 mark of the second quarter when Lattimore, who averaged 14.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game for the ‘Hoos this season, went down awkwardly on a defensive-rebound attempt, and was on the floor for several minutes before being helped off.

She would not return, and finished with two points and an assist in eight minutes of floor time.

Cal went into the break up 41-25, and the closest it would get thereafter was 69-56 at the 4:20 mark of the fourth quarter, after a Kymora Johnson three that capped a 12-2 UVA run.

Johnson finished with 18 points (8-of-21 FG, 2-of-4 3FG) and eight rebounds.

Paris Clark had 15 points, and Breona Hurd chipped in 10.
