A Westwood Elementary School administrator was nearly hit by a car Thursday afternoon, a Waynesboro Police Department spokesperson has confirmed.
Waynesboro Police officers responded to the incident on Rosser Avenue just before 3 p.m. on Thursday.
The eyewitness told AFP that Waynesboro police did speak to the driver; it is unknown if any charges were filed.
The school zone has a posted 25 miles per hour speed limit; there is also a school crossing guard present to assist children and parents crossing the street in the morning and afternoon.
A parent told AFP that dangerous driving seems to be a recurring issue in the school zone and is a growing concern.
“I am not really sure what parents/citizens consider dangerous driving,” said WPD Capt. Jamie Dunn. “We are constantly making efforts to monitor all of our school zones to try and combat potential issues that arise in our school zones.”
AFP asked if there had been other similar incidents in the Westwood school zone.
Dunn said he is sure there have been previous incidents, but since most reports are made after the incident happens, it “limits how we can respond.”
