Highlight Events

Wednesday, May 2, 10 a.m., Practical Online Privacy Practices. In celebration of the American Library Association’s Choose Privacy Week, this program will share actions you can take to defend your online privacy. Learn how to remember your passwords, spot spam and phishing attempts, and other ways to protect yourself on social media, your cell phone, and the Internet.

Friday, May 4, 11 a.m., Intro to Excel. Advance registration required.

Tuesday, May 8, 3-5 p.m., Mother’s Day Craft: Framed Flowers. Make a framed display of pressed flowers for a Mother’s Day gift or just for fun. All supplies provided. Participants must be 16 or older. Advance registration required.

Wednesday, May 16, 12 p.m., Midday Music: Redeemer Classical School Handbells. Students from the Redeemer Classical School handbells group will present Alice in Wonderland and other music under the direction of Kath Wissinger of the Mosaic Handbell Ensemble. Light lunch provided.

Friday, May 18, 11 a.m., Intermediate Excel. Advance registration required.

Friday, May 18, at 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Writing as Art, Editing & Publishing a Book Workshop. Wayne Drumheller, M.Ed, will lead this workshop for students and adults about self-publishing a book, including the stages of writing, editing, cover design, pricing, and marketing. Drumheller is a book editor, photojournalist, and founder of the Creative Book Writers Project who has helped over 100 regional writers and artisans publish their narrative biographies, historical, nonfiction and fiction books. He is a native of Nelson County and currently is based in Burlington and Brevard, North Carolina. Advance registration required.

Reoccurring Programs

Second and Fourth Fridays at 6:30 p.m., Movie Night at the Library. See new releases on the big screen. Free popcorn and drinks are provided.

Monthly- Second Thursdays at 4 p.m., Book Club. Read a novel, then meet with others to discuss. Ask at the circulation desk to check out a copy of the book-of-the-month.

Monthly- Fourth Tuesdays at 7 p.m., Nonfiction Book Club. Our new nonfiction book club will read and discuss nonfiction books. Ask for your copy at the circulation desk or check out our e-library.

Monday

• 9:30 a.m., Swing and Sway. This music and movement class is just the thing you need to get started in the morning. No stories, just song and dance. Ages 0-6.
• 10:00 am-12:00 p.m., Chat & Play. provides interactive play for your little one and conversation for you. Open to children ages 0-6 and their caregivers.
• 4:00 p.m., WPL Knitters. Bring your materials and socialize with other knitters.

Tuesday

• 6:30 p.m., Story Night & Happy Tales. A story, a bedtime snack, and a chance to practice those reading skills with friendly, attentive therapy dogs from Positive Paws.

Wednesday

• 9:30 a.m., Mother Goose Time is an interactive program featuring songs, fingerplays, books, movements, and nursery rhymes for children from birth through age three and their caregivers.
• 10:30 a.m., Story Time features books, stories, songs, puppets, flannel board activities, and crafts for children ages three through five accompanied by an adult.
• 4:00 p.m., Teen Volunteer Club. Need volunteer hours? Start here. Come ready to be assigned a library project, or bring an idea for a project of your own. Middle & high school. Snacks provided.

Thursday

• 9:30 a.m., Mother Goose Time is an interactive program featuring songs, finger-plays, books, movements, and nursery rhymes for children from birth through age three and their caregivers.
• 10:30 a.m., Story Time features books, stories, songs, puppets, flannel board activities, and crafts for children ages three through five accompanied by an adult.
• 4:00 p.m., Masterminds. Full STEAM ahead! Science, technology, engineering, arts, and math are the waves of the future. (ages 5-12) are invited to take part in fun experiments and interactive lessons. Activities will vary but fun is guaranteed.
• 4:00 p.m., Junior Masterminds is perfect for preschoolers who want to go full STEAM ahead. It is focused mainly on building, with a scientific flair. If you are too young for Masterminds (ages 0-5) this program is for you.
