Waynesboro Generals blast Staunton Braves, 13-1, take over second in Valley League

Griffin Krieg and three relievers combined on a two-hitter, and the Waynesboro Generals pounded out 16 hits against six Braves pitchers, in a dominating 13-1 win over Staunton in front of a season-high 975 fans at Kate Collins Field Saturday night.

The win pushes Waynesboro into second place in the Valley League with two days to go in the 2014 regular season, with Staunton and Front Royal a half-game back in third.

Krieg (3-0) struck out four and walked one in five innings of two-hit ball. Cole Gruber, Garrett Russini and Kyle Pitts each had three hits for the Generals, and Mike McClellan had two hits and three RBI for Waynesboro, the defending Valley League champs.

Generals hitters also worked Staunton pitching for seven walks.

Waynesboro is scheduled to play two games in two cities on Sunday, weather permitting – at Staunton at 1 p.m. and at New Market at 7:30 p.m.
