The Wayne Theatre will host the local premiere of “Texas Rein” on Sunday, June 26, at 4:30 and 7 p.m.
Produced and filmed primarily in Augusta County, “Texas Rein” is a full-length Christian drama based on a book by the same title.
Admission is Pay What You Will. No advance tickets are required.
Introductions and comments will start at 7 p.m. At the end of the movie, the director, producer, author and actors will be available for a question and answer period.
“It’s exciting for the Wayne Theatre to be able to serve as the host of a premiere for a new feature movie that was produced locally,” said Tracy Straight, the executive director of the Wayne Theatre. “A key part of the mission for us here at the Wayne is to foster the growth and development of the arts, and this is an exciting way for us to fill that role.”
“Texas Rein” is an all-American story that explores the family dynamic when a prodigal daughter returns home. Cassie Roberts, an ex-rodeo queen turned single mom, has been running from her past and a long trail of bad decisions until she gets an urgent call to return home for her ailing father, Marvin.
Cassie plans to stay only long enough to help her father get back on his feet. But when she sees Splash, her father’s prize winning Quarter Horse, her plans change. Cassie wants to see Splash compete in the International Equestrian Games and she wants the best trainer in East Texas to make it happen. But when Cassie meets Chase Eversoll, a handsome cowboy horse trainer, she gets more than she bargained for.
As their work turns personal, Chase challenges Cassie to let go of her past and reminds her that reconciliation begins with forgiveness. Texas Rein celebrates the gift of family and the hope of second chances.
This film was directed and produced by Durrell and Becky Nelson Rodgers of Beautiful Feet Productions.
Most all of the locations for shooting this film were in Augusta County, with additional locations in Lexington, Lynchburg and Virginia Beach. Two of the lead actors, including Beth Gouthro and Grayson Reed, live in Augusta County, as well as other cast members, including Annika Fisher, Laura Knopp Avnaim (who now lives in LA but her family lives here).
The author of the book, Becky Boyette, also resides in Augusta County. Because of the shooting locations, most all the extras featured in the film are also from the surrounding areas.
Screenings have been held at film festivals across the country in New York, South Carolina and the Richmond international Film Festival. The film has also been accepted into the International Christian Film Festival in Orlando, Florida.
