washington nationalsTanner Roark had a nice bounceback outing for the Washington Nationals, who also bounced back nicely in a 4-0 win at Philadelphia on Monday.

The Nats (76-55), coming off a 2-5 homestand, got seven shutout innings from Roark (14-7, 2.87 ERA, 1.17 WHIP), who gave up four hits, struck out five and walked one.

Jayson Werth (.251/.344/.445, 19 HR, 60 RBI) hit a solo homer in a two-run Washington first, and it would remain 2-0 into the ninth, when the Nationals added a pair of insurance runs on RBI singles by Clint Robinson and Trea Turner.

Washington has a nine-game lead on Miami and the New York Mets (both 67-64), and it’s early to be talking magic numbers, but the Nats’ magic number is 23.
