Washington tops Miami: Magic number at two

washington nationalsMax Scherzer endured a rough seventh to win his 18th game as the Washington Nationals triumphed at Miami, 8-3.

The victory breaks a four-game losing streak for the Nats (89-63), whose magic number to clinch the NL East is at two with the New York Mets losing 4-3 to Atlanta.

Scherzer (18-7, 2.82 ERA, 0.93 WHIP) took a two-hit shutout into the seventh before giving up a pair of homers, to Christian Yelich (20) and Derek Dietrich (6).

Scherzer ended up giving up three runs on four hits in six and two-thirds, striking out eight and walking two.

Ryan Zimmerman (.216/.270/.372, 15 HR, 45 RBI) had a three-run homer for Washington, and rookie Trea Turner hit his 12th homer in 63 games this season.
