Tanner Roark and four Nationals relievers limited the Cubs to five hits, and a Wilson Ramos sixth-inning homer proved to be the difference in a 2-1 Washington win at Wrigley Field on Memorial Day.
Roark (1-2) went five innings in the spot start, giving up a run on three hits, walking one and striking out three.
The Nats bullpen allowed three baserunners in the final four innings, with Drew Storen recording his 15th save with a scoreless ninth that featured some controversy. Leadoff hitter Kris Bryant had been ruled out on an apparent foul tip, but after replay it was decided that Bryant had been hit by the pitch. Storen retired the final three Chicago hitters in order to quell the threat.
Ramos hit his third homer of the season off Cubs reliever Justin Grimm (1-1). Denard Span homered to lead off the game, his fourth of the season.
Bryant hit a solo shot, his sixth, in the bottom of the first, to account for Chicago’s lone run of the day.
