Virginia State Police arrest Suffolk man for road-rage incident in Chesapeake

A 59-year-old man is in custody for a shooting incident on Route 58 eastbound on Tuesday in the City of Chesapeake.

Agents with the bureau of criminal investigation in the Chesapeake field office arrested James G. Dietz, of Suffolk, for a shooting on the on ramp to Interstate 664 southbound.

According to Virginia State Police, the incident happened at 6:20 p.m. on Nov. 25.

The shooting allegedly followed an aggressive driving incident.

Dietz has been charged with shooting from an occupied vehicle, shooting at an occupied vehicle and reckless handling of a firearm.

The suspect and victim were not known to each other.

There were no injuries as a result of the shooting, and the victim’s vehicle was not damaged.

The incident remains under investigation.

This was the first of two road-rage incidents involving a shooting in the Hampton Roads area on Tuesday. The second incident took place in Newport News and involved a black motorcycle operator shooting at an occupied car at approximately 11:04 p.m. No arrest has been announced in that incident.
