Virginia senior Anthony Gill named ACC basketball player of the week

Virginia senior Anthony Gill (High Point, N.C.) has been voted the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Cavaliers to a win over West Virginia at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Gill posted season highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth career double-double as Virginia downed the Mountaineers by a 70-54 score last Tuesday evening in the Jimmy V Classic. Gill went 9-of-11 from the field in reaching double figures for the ninth time in as many games this season. He is averaging 13.4 points and 6.4 rebounds for the No. 8 Cavaliers, who host No. 12 Villanova on Saturday (Dec. 19).

Joining Gill as a weekly honoree is Virginia Tech’s Kerry Blackshear Jr., who was selected the conference’s Rookie of the Week. ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel.
