Despite a record-setting 26 points and 22 rebound performance from VCU sophomore forward Marcus Santos-Silva, Rhode Island held off the Rams in the Atlantic 10 Conference Quarterfinals Friday at Barclays Center.
Santos-Silva went 8-of-14 from the floor and 10-of-14 from the free throw line en route to his 26 points. Of his 22 rebounds, 10 were offensive boards.
De’Riante Jenkins was the only other VCU (25-7) player to score in double figures with 13 points to go along with four rebounds and five assists.
Jeff Dowtin led Rhode Island (18-14) with 22 points
