The Valley Alliance for Education announced the recipients of 29 Creative Classroom Grants for the 2024-2025 school year, totaling $34,480.

The grants, which will be presented to 35 dedicated teachers across 20 different schools, aim to enhance educational experiences for more than 4,000 students in Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County.

The grants will be awarded at VAE’s annual reception on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the Blue Ridge Community College Robert E. Plecker Workforce Center in Weyers Cave.

The Creative Classroom Grants are designed to support innovative teaching practices and enriching classroom projects that ignite student curiosity and foster academic excellence. The recipients for 2024 include a diverse array of educators who have proposed a variety of exciting initiatives, from hands-on science experiments to creative arts projects and technology integration.

In addition to the grant presentations, the reception will also celebrate the exceptional educators chosen as Teachers of the Year from Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County.

Each of the outstanding teachers will receive a $1,000 school grant, sponsored by Mary Baldwin University. The recognition honors their commitment to excellence in education and their positive impact on their students and school communities.

“We are incredibly proud to support such a talented group of educators who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of their students,” VAE Board President Elizabeth Fravel said. “The Creative Classroom Grants and Teacher of the Year awards highlight our commitment to fostering educational innovation and recognizing the remarkable efforts of our local teachers.”

Valley Alliance for Education was established in 1990 and remains an all-volunteer board representing various parts of the community. VAE’s common goal is to help prepare students for the workforce by promoting educational excellence within our local public schools. Since VAE’s inception, the non-profit has invested nearly $1 million into area schools providing educational equipment and supplies.
