UVA women’s lacrosse seeded seventh in NCAA Tournament

The UVA women’s lacrosse team  (11-6) earned the No. 7 seed in the 2015 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship and will be hosting first and second round games on Friday, May 8 and Sunday, May 10 at Klöckner Stadium after earning an at-large bid in the 26-team field.

Penn State (14-4) and Johns Hopkins (14-3) will get the action started on Friday at Klöckner Stadium with a game starting at 4 p.m. The Cavaliers will face Winthrop (17-3) at 7 p.m.

The winners of Friday’s games will play one another in a second-round game on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.

The winner of Sunday’s game will advance to play in a quarterfinal match-up on May 17 at a location to be determined against the winner of the first and second round games being contested in Chapel Hill, N.C.

“We are extremely excited about being in the tournament again,” said head coach Julie Myers. “I think our team did a great job of really battling their way through the season and doing a really nice job down the stretch. It is great to earn the seven-seed and be able to play at home again. We look forward to taking on a quality opponent and a conference-winner in Winthrop with two more great teams here battling it out on Friday night as well. We are excited to host, excited to be in the position we are in and are extremely proud of the girls.”

This will be the Cavaliers’ 20th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Last season, the Cavaliers advanced to the NCAA Semifinals before falling to Syracuse.

Fans may purchase tickets for the NCAA First and Second Round games beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 4 online at VirginiaSports.com, by calling (800) 542-8821, or in person at the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office in Bryant Hall.

Reserved tickets are $7. General admission tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for youth 18-and-under and students of the participating schools with a valid student ID.

There will be a $5 cash parking fee for the University Hall, John Paul Jones Arena and McCue Center parking lots on Friday andSunday because UVa is hosting NCAA Lacrosse Championship games at Klöckner Stadium. The parking charge does not apply to baseball fans holding a reserved parking pass for the University Hall parking lot. Free parking will be available in the Emmet/Ivy Garage and Culbreth Garage.
