A former Fluvanna County pharmacist has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges that he took liquid hydromorphone from Jefferson Pharmacy in Palmyra for his own use.
Joshua J. Walden, 52, resigned from his job as a staff pharmacist at Jefferson Pharmacy in February 2025.
An online bio lists Walden as having worked at the pharmacy dating back to 2021.
According to the indictment, Walden is alleged to have stolen liquid opioids and amphetamines and tampered with prescription medications, replacing the drugs that he was to dispense with water.
Liquid hydromorphone – known by the brand name Dilaudid Oral Solution – is a prescription opioid used to manage moderate-to-severe pain.
Walden has been charged with one count of tampering with consumer products and attempt to tamper with a consumer product, two counts of theft of pre-retail medical products, and one count of acquiring a controlled substance by fraud.
