Virginia put up its most dominating performance in two years and its second straight solid performance in two weeks in posting a 47-7 win over Indiana on Saturday in Charlottesville.
UVa. (2-3) led 14-0 less than six minutes in and 30-0 at halftime against the clearly overmatched Hoosiers (3-3), whose lone score came with eight minutes left against a group of Cavs backups.
Mikell Simpson scored four touchdowns for Virginia before leaving the game in the third quarter on a backboard after being tackled on a short gain. UVa. coach Al Groh said after the game that he was not certain of Simpson’s status, though a University of Virginia radio network report had Simpson suffering only a minor undisclosed injury.
Quarterback Jameel Sewell completed 20 of his 30 pass attempts for 308 yards and a touchdown, and added another touchdown on the ground.
Vic Hall had six catches for 85 yards and a touchdown, a 25-yarder in the first quarter.
Virginia had 536 yards of total offense, including 231 yards on the ground.
Indiana had 272 yards of total offense and was held to 82 yards rushing on the game.
