UVA Football: How much are we paying Arkansas State for the 2027 season opener?

The move to adjust the Arkansas State game on the 2027 UVA Football schedule from Sept. 18 to Aug. 28 to make it a Week 0 game isn’t going to cost us anything more in terms of human monies.

This, I learned, from a public-records request that had me asking for copies of the original contract for the game, which is dated June 6, 2025, and the amended contract, which is dated June 25, 2026.

It’s a guarantee game, meaning, UVA Athletics is paying Arkansas State $700,000 to fly to Charlottesville and, ostensibly, take a whuppin’.

Tell you what, if I’m Arkansas State, I’m asking for at least another $100,000, after Ryan Odom snatched 6’6” shooting guard Christian Harmon (12.8 ppg, 53.2% 2FG, 34.6% 3FG last season) from their roster to come up here and play for our side.

They had leverage there that they didn’t use.

The killer 2027 UVA Football schedule also has a game with William & Mary, of the FCS subdivision.

Still need one more, against a Power 4.
