Virginia mustered just five hits on a chilly Sunday at The Dish, after putting up double-digits in wins over Virginia Tech on Friday and Saturday.

The ninth-ranked ’Hoos (16-4, 4-2 ACC) dropped the series finale to the Hokies (9-9, 2-4 ACC), 6-3.

The star of the afternoon: Tech starter Griffin Stieg (1-1, 6.00 ERA), who held Virginia to a run on three hits in six innings of work, striking out seven and walking three, on 104 pitches.

John Paone (1-1, 4.79 ERA) took the loss for Virginia. He was tagged for five earned runs on three hits in four innings of work, the big shot being a three-run homer in the fourth off the bat of Hudson Lutterman, his fourth homer of the season.

Paone struck out four and walked two, and needed 80 pitches to get 12 outs.

Eric Becker (3) and Antonio Perrotta (4) each homered on the day for Virginia.
