The Tim Kaine Senate campaign launched a new TV ad, “Unbelievable,” highlighting Hung Cao’s comments that “No one in the United States is like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I will die if I don’t have healthcare.’”

The ad begins with Cao’s out-of-touch comments. Then, real Virginians react to his comments by asking: “Wow, is that a joke?” and discussing how would they fare without healthcare.

Sen. Tim Kaine celebrates 30 years in public service in 2024 and is running for his third term representing Virginia in the U.S. Senate. Cao is his Republican opponent, who has never served in public office. He unsuccessfully ran for Virginia’s District 10 against U.S. Rep. Jennifer Wexton in 2022.

Cao has vowed to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would strip protections for 1.3 million Virginians with pre-existing conditions, increase taxes on hardworking Virginia families and jeopardize health insurance for nearly 700,000 Virginians. Cao also committed to repealing the Inflation Reduction Act, which would lead to higher prescription drug costs for Virginians.

Hung Cao believes that no one in the United States would die if they don’t have health care, showing just how wrong and out-of-touch he is with Virginians,” Michael Beyer, Communications Director for Kaine for Virginia, said. “This new ad will shine a spotlight on Hung Cao’s out-of-touch comments and show Virginians that Hung Cao cannot be trusted to protect their health care.”
