Motorists and businesses on southbound Greenville Avenue in Staunton will find portions of Route 11 closed in the next month.

Columbia Gas of Virginia will have crews on site to improve gas line infrastructure for homes and businesses.

Three highway connections are available for downtown, as reported by WHSV, and all three will be interrupted by the construction work.

Most of the work will be completed during nighttime hours on Greenville Avenue at a steel plate in the intersection at the entrance to downtown. Nighttime drivers should anticipate delays and closures between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. each night.

“Just be prepared for slow traffic or temporarily stopped traffic,” Columbia Gas of Virginia Communications Manager Stephanie Benson told WHSV. “If you do encounter these work zones, we want you to keep normal speed limits in mind. They may be reduced, traffic lanes may be changed and people may be working around those lanes.”

Construction is expected to be complete by the middle of August, Benson said, as long as the weather cooperates.

The city of Staunton will provide updates on construction and closure notifications on social media. The city posted earlier this week about detours when driving from downtown, such as taking Commerce Avenue or Middlebrook Avenue.
