Tourism group launches in Waynesboro

Contributors

Local business owners and volunteers involved in the tourism industry in the Greater Waynesboro area have announced the formation of the Tourism Association of Greater Waynesboro to advocate for the multimillion-dollar tourism industry.

“Few local residents are aware that over $4 million in contributions to the city’s revenue source comes from sales and lodging taxes, real estate and personal property taxes paid directly to the city’s coffers by our local tourism industry,” said Colleen Fridley of the Best Western Waynesboro Inn and Suites Conference Center. “The Tourism Association of Greater Waynesboro has been organized for the express purpose of raising awareness of what we have and to work to increase its contribution to our local revenues.”

The Association is co-chaired by Bill Aldridge owner of the Tree Streets Inn. The group currently meets biweekly and is open to any individual, organization or business that is interested in promoting tourism in the Greater Waynesboro area.

Interested individuals or businesses may contact either Aldridge or Fridley for more information or attend the next meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 26 in the City Hall Building.

The Association was formed to promote and advocate for the increased awareness and support of Waynesboro as a central hub for tourism and destination events in the area surrounding Waynesboro.
