One of the stars of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth group that sought to malign 2004 Democratic Party presidential candidate John Kerry’s military service will serve as the commissioner for the Virginia Department of Veterans Services.
Paul Galanti was appointed to the post by Gov. Bob McDonnell. The appointment was announced by the governor’s office on Thursday.
Galanti was a prisoner of war for nearly seven years during the Vietnam War.
