SWAG Writers presents Blue Ridge Anthology 2013

The SWAG Writers (Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta Group of the Virginia Writers Club) Reading Series continues with a reading by contributors to The Blue Ridge Anthology 2013. The anthology is a publication of the Blue Ridge Writers Chapter of the Virginia Writers Club, intended to showcase the talent of member writers in the Central Virginia region. Proceeds from this anthology help to fulfill the Club’s mission of supporting and stimulating the art, craft, and business of writing, as well as being an advocate for literary arts in the communities served by the Chapter, including Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County.

The reading will take place on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Shenandoah Valley Art Center, 126 S. Wayne St., Waynesboro. The reading is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase.

This event is the latest sponsored by SWAG organizers to elevate the profile of area writers and promote the literary arts in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County. The group is made up of professional, aspiring, and hobby writers who also host a monthly mixer where members meet to network and socialize and read short excerpts of their work at an open mic. Phyllis Anne Duncan of Staunton is the author of three collections of short fiction: Fences, Blood Vengenance, and Spy Flash. She is a retired Federal Aviation Administration safety official.  Clifford Garstang is the author of a novel in stories, What the Zhang Boys Know (Press 53, 2012), and a story collection, In an Uncharted Country (Press 53, 2009). The founder of SWAG Writers, he lives in Augusta County. Jody Hobbs Hesler of Charlottesville has published work in numerous magazines including Potato Eyes Journal, Leaf Garden Press, The Writer’s Eye Anthology, Pearl, Prime Number, and Charlottesville Family Magazine. Linda Levokove’s first collection of poetry, Walk on the Heart Side, was published in 2010. She has also published work in Mid-America Review, A Hudson Review, Poets Domain, and elsewhere. She is an interior designer. Elizabeth Solomon, a native of New Orleans, has published two collections of poetry, including The Steering Wheel Poems (Cedar Creek, 2010). Her new book, Journey West and Everywhere, is forthcoming. Lauvonda Lynn Young is the author of a collection of poetry, Just a Woman (Cedar Creek, 2011). She has also published poems in various magazines and anthologies.
