Unstoppable Force, meet the Moveable Object

Column by Chris Graham

WILLIAMS SCORES FOUR, BREAKS TECH FRESHMAN RUSHING MARK: Nice stat line for Virginia Tech freshman running back in the Hokies’ 38-10 win over N.C. State on Saturday – 32 carries, 120 yards, four touchdowns.

Williams has 16 touchdowns on the season, tying the ACC record for touchdowns in a season by a freshman (Leon Johnson, UNC, 1993). Williams now has 1,354 yards rushing in 2009, breaking Darren Evans’ 2008 Tech record for yards rushing by a freshman running back set just last year.

“I was just out there grinding for all the yardage,” Williams said. “The record ended up coming my way. It feels pretty good to have it. But I don’t find it as a big deal. I’m just glad we got the win. That’s all I’m thinking about.”

ANOTHER RECORD PERFORMANCE: Senior defensive back Cody Grimm forced three fumbles on N.C. State’s first four plays from scrimmage, tying an NCAA record.

Editorial comment: How three fumbles forced by a single player on an opposing team’s first four plays just ties an NCAA record is amazing in itself.

DEE-FENCE! N.C. State came into the Tech game averaging 32.6 points and 413 yards total offense a game. The Pack scored 10 points and had 259 yards total offense.

DEE-FENCE! Clemson scored and scored in bunches in its 34-21 win over Virginia, but the Cavs D left with a sort of moral victory with its effort against Tigers’ Heisman hopeful C.J. Spiller, who could only garner 58 yards rushing on 19 carries and 114 all-purpose yards.

OFF-FULL! Virginia had 35 yards total offense in a scoreless second half after rolling up 21 points and 238 yards total offense in the first half.

The ‘Hoos had four consecutive three-and-outs to start the second half.

Quarterback Jameel Sewell was sacked seven times, racking up 56 yards in losses on the sacks.

Glenn Youngkin goes on Sean Hannity podcast to plead for job with Trump

Glenn Youngkin desperately wants a job in the Trump regime, for a reason that I can’t put my finger on: Youngkin has a net worth of $400 million, most of that his equity in the ghastly private-equity firm he led before he ran for governor in 2021.
