Ackleson Derick HeathThe Waynesboro Police Department has charged a Staunton man with grand larceny after he stole nearly a $1,000 in property from a home he had been renting.

Derick Heath Ackelson, 42 years old, is charged with one felony count of grand larceny. On August 12, the owner of the house located in the 1100 block of Jefferson Avenue reported to the police department that he was evicting Ackelson from the residence after he lived there for two years.  Ackelson was required to be out of the residence by August 1. After the date had passed, the victim went to the home to verify Ackelson had left.  He noticed, in addition to Ackelson, that several garden tools and other outdoor items including a lawn mower, grill and hammock were gone.

The Staunton Police Department arrested Ackelson on August 23 on the grand larceny charge.  He is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
