Staunton: Free parking in city garages during winter storm

Contributors

staunton virginiaIn anticipation of the forecasted winter storm this weekend, the City of Staunton will suspend parking fees at the New Street and Johnson Street parking garages from at 8 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 12 through 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14.

Parking will be free in the garages until the storm has ended and snow removal has been completed in the downtown central business district.

Parking Restrictions

On-street parking will not be permitted on Beverley Street, from Lewis to Market streets, and on both sides of New Street, from Johnson to Frederick streets, to allow for snow removal. The parking restrictions will go into effect at 2 a.m. Saturday.

Residents who ordinarily use on-street parking are encouraged to park in the garages for their convenience and to allow City crews to remove snow from downtown streets.

Snow Removal Requirements

Staunton City Code requires that residents and business owners remove snow in front of their home or place of business promptly. Sidewalks must be cleared within six hours after ice or snow stops. If the precipitation falls at night, residents and business owners have until noon the following day to clear a public walkway.

Stay in the Know

Residents can stay informed of changes in City schedules, including City closings, delays and trash pickup rescheduling, on the City’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Get City alerts by signing up for Staunton Alert Messages or sign up for eNotifications to get City news by email.
