Second Texas healthcare worker tests positive for Ebola

ebola4A second person connected with the treatment of Thomas Eric Duncan, a Liberian man who died in a Dallas hospital last week after being diagnosed with the Ebola virus, has tested positive for the virus, the Texas Department of Health Services has confirmed.

The worker, whose name has not been made public, came down with a fever on Tuesday and underwent a test that came back positive late Tuesday night. Over the weekend, a 26-year-old nurse, Nina Pham, who had been involved in the care for Duncan, tested positive for Ebola.

This comes on top of a report by cnn in which a source at the Centers for Disease Control is now conceding that the hospital where Duncan was treated was wholly unprepared for dealing with Ebola, and that in hindsight Duncan should have been transferred to one of the four hospitals in the country that are equipped to deal with the highly infectious disease.

Duncan was reportedly left in a room with at least 76 other people for hours before finally being put in isolation, potentially exposing those people to the virus. Those who have been in contact with Duncan are being monitored closely to try to contain further spread of the disease.
