The State Corporation Commission Bureau of Insurance has named Michael Beavers deputy commissioner of its Agent Regulation Division. As deputy commissioner, he will oversee three investigation units and the Bureau’s Agent Licensing Section. He replaces Brian Gaudiose, who retired in August.
Beavers joined the Bureau in 1987 as an investigator in the Property and Casualty Division. He served as a senior investigator, supervisor and chief of investigations before assuming his current post recently.
The Agent Regulation Division performs licensing functions for all lines of insurance and responds to informational requests about insurance agents. It conducts field investigations of insurance agent and title settlement agent activities and reviews their financial transactions and business practices to ensure they are in compliance with Virginia insurance laws and regulations.
“Mike’s strong leadership and investigative skills, together with his experience in and knowledge of insurance regulation, make his transition into this new role virtually seamless,” said Virginia Insurance Commissioner Jacqueline K. Cunningham. “He has, for many years, been an outstanding regulator and manager, and I look forward to working with Mike in his new position as deputy commissioner,” she said.
A Richmond native, Beavers holds a bachelor’s degree in Administration of Justice from Virginia Commonwealth University. His designations include Certified Fraud Examiner, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Certified Insurance Counselor and Certified Insurance Examiner, among others.
