Robert Hurt honored by National Association of Manufacturers

Chris Graham

Robert_HurtCongressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) released the following statement after receiving the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence at Babcock and Wilcox in Lynchburg:

“Virginia’s Fifth District has a proud history of manufacturing, and the growth of advanced manufacturing offers tremendous opportunity for Virginians and Americans to obtain good-paying, skilled, and rewarding jobs.  But, if we want to see the continued growth of manufacturing in the United States, we must adopt policies that allow us to boost our competitiveness.  We must have sound and reasonable regulatory policy, a competitive tax policy, and a well-educated and trained workforce.  I am honored to receive this recognition today, and I look forward to continuing to build upon the House of Representatives’ record of reducing regulatory burdens on our manufacturers and growing American jobs.”

Joel Burch, Vice President and General Manager, Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group-Lynchburg said, “All of us here today know that manufacturers in America are critical to the strength of our nation’s economy. That is why Congressman Hurt’s votes in support of a pro-manufacturing legislative agenda are so important. We are fortunate to have Congressman Robert Hurt in our corner, advocating policies that will allow us to grow, create jobs, stay competitive and support our nation as well as global security.”

NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons,  “Manufacturing in Virginia and across the country is making a comeback.  Manufacturers are growing the economy and creating high-paying jobs in a sector that adds $1.32 to the economy for every $1 spent. Representative Hurt understands that leaders in Washington must advance policies that will continue to fuel this economic growth and has consistently supported manufacturers through his votes in Congress.”
