Chris Graham

One woman was killed and four others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon (July 22, 2012) in Nelson County. Virginia State Police Trooper R. Sachno III is investigating the crash that occurred at 3:51 p.m. at the intersection of Routes 151 and 840.

A 2002 Dodge Neon was traveling east on Route 840 when the driver failed to stop for the posted stop sign. The Neon continued through the intersection and collided with a northbound 2009 Honda GL 1800 motorcycle.

The driver of the Neon, a 17-year-old West Virginia male, and two of his four passengers suffered minor injuries and were transported to UVA Hospital in Charlottesville for treatment. The driver was treated and released from the hospital Sunday.

The driver of the motorcycle, Alphonse R. Beaulieu, 76, of North Smithfield, Rhode Island, is currently being treated at UVA Hospital for life-threatening injuries. His wife and passenger, Rina I. Beaulieu, 75, of North Smithfield, Rhode Island, died at the scene. Both were wearing helmets.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Charges are pending consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney.
