Reggae at the Jefferson in Charlottesville

On Jan. 26th, Fort Knox Recording artists See-I will bring their unique brand of reggae – injected with heavy doses of funk, soul, dub and rock – to the Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville alongside Yellow Dubmarine.

See-I is hot on the heels of a successful Fall Tour as well as their recently released See-I Remixed album, based on their critically acclaimed self-titled debut that came out in June.  Their debut album had critics raving from The Washington Post calling it a “carefully crafted and impressively consistent album,” to The Washington City Paper boasting, “It’s a dynamic release that struts with the confidence of experience.”

The story of See-I begins with two brothers, Arthur “Rootz” Steele and Archie “Zeebo” Steele, who found their way from college in North Carolina via the Caribbean only to end up in Washington, D.C. It was in the cultural melting pot of the Nation’s capital that they developed their creative and musical talents. In the late 1980s, the brothers Steele would launch the project that has defined their lives: See-I. They quickly became a fixture of DC’s burgeoning Reggae scene crossing paths with other local musicians like Thievery Corporation and Fort Knox Five with whom they frequently collaborated. Throughout the ‘90s and into the coming millennium they would become widely known for recording, performing and touring the world with Thievery Corporation.

Forty-two years after the most legendary band of all time released a classic album that would be their swan song, another band made their debut re-imagining that same recording. Yellow Dubmarine offer up Abbey Dub, a stunning reggae take on The Beatles’ Abbey Road. This paired with performances that celebrate the entire Fab Four catalog via dub and reggae renditions makes for one of the most exciting live shows on the road today.
