
A Northern Virginia man is in jail for allegedly have cars repossessed fraudulently, and the Virginia State Police is looking for more victims.
Brandon Eugene Morton, 32, of Stafford, has been indicted on felony racketeering charges in the potential auto theft ring.
Morton is believed to have multiple aliases and may have operated several dealerships under various names. State Police believe there may be more victims in Caroline, Fredericksburg and Northern Virginia.
On Dec. 8, 2023, troopers were dispatched to a call for a stolen vehicle out of Caroline County. A tow truck showed up to a residence to conduct what the tow company believed to be a lawful repossession.
Through VSP’s investigation, it was determined that the owner of the vehicle had been making regular payments, but the seller of the vehicle did not forward appropriate documents, instead repossessing the vehicle.
In 2023, Morton was reported missing but was found safe hours later.
Morton is currently in Rappahannock Regional Jail.
