Bridgewater CollegeThe New Orchestra of Washington will present a lyceum at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, in the Concert Hall in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College.

NOW’s mission is to make music relevant to new generations of audiences through virtuosic performances that combine a range of genres with fresh interpretations of classic works.

NOW will perform Fratres by Arvo Pärt, “Suite for Strings” from Psycho by Bernard Herrmann and Grażyna Bacewicz’s “Concerto for String Orchestra.”

A special feature of the concert will be a performance of Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and Strings” featuring Ryo Yanagitani on piano and Chris Carrillo on trumpet.

NOW was founded in 2012 by rising stars in the District of Columbia’s professional community, including Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez, who serves as artistic director.

The lyceum is free and open to the public.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to nearly 1,800 undergraduate students.
