Nation’s #1 dining app launches in Harrisonburg

spotluckSpotluck is expanding to The Friendly City with the help of Harrisonburg Tourism and Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance, bringing with it an innovative way to connect local restaurants to the community.

Spotluck is a free mobile app that helps market neighborhood restaurants to the hungry diners in the area, and aims to get more people out and about in the community. Over a dozen of Harrisonburg’s local spots have come aboard the collaborative marketing platform, joining 500+ restaurants throughout the East Coast.

Harrisonburg joins Georgetown, University of Maryland, Drexel, UPENN, Hood College, George Mason University, Virginia Tech (coming soon) and American University as major Spotluck Hubs that also boast a college campus.

Spotluck operates on a simple concept: local restaurants thrive when collaborating as a neighborhood. The community of restaurants offers “smart” discounts to attract customers during slower times (between 10%-35%). The theory that prices on a rainy Tuesday shouldn’t be the same as prices on a beautiful Friday evening forms the basis of the dynamic pricing you’ll see in the app. Plus, Spotluck’s daily “spin” provides bonus savings and a fun twist for its loyal users.

The team behind the app also includes ’14 JMU graduate, Lauren DiRuggiero, Spotluck’s Community Manager. DiRuggiero noted how eager the team is to launch in Harrisonburg. “I couldn’t be more excited to bring the startup I helped create back home to Harrisonburg. The city’s quaint downtown made up of great, local restaurants and engaged citizens, paired with JMU’s large student population, is the perfect mix for Spotluck. We’ve created a win-win product for local businesses and users alike, and we know it will succeed in Harrisonburg.”

Leave Dianna Russini alone: Sportswriters, coaches, happen to like hot tubs

I’m totally on the side of Dianna Russini in this generated controversy over her being caught holding hands, hugging and lounging in a hot tub with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel. Seriously, what sportswriter isn’t holding hands, hugging and lounging in hot tubs with coaches they cover? Just last week, for instance, Ryan Odom,...
