LOSER: Mohawk Industries
Nice PR department they must have there. The Georgia company first tells The News Virginian that it was not going to be laying off employees at its Waynesboro plant as part of a companywide restructuring, then goes ahead and lays off employees at its Waynesboro plant.
It would have been OK to have just told the paper the whole story the first time, but …
Oh, well.
LOSER: Commonwealth Transportation Board
Nelson County had asked for restrictions for trucks using Va. 6 and Va. 151 as a cut-through between Interstate 64 and U.S. 29, but the request was denied last year by the Commonwealth Transportation Board in part due to concerns about the impact on trucking outfits that use the cut-through to shave 20 miles off trips from the Valley to Southside.
Congratulations, wonks – a Nelson County woman and her two daughters were killed when the car they were traveling in was hit at full speed by a box truck.
LOSER: Floyd Landis
The disgraced 2006 Tour de France winner was in the Valley last week – though it wasn’t exactly the most well-publicized promotional event that I’ve come across.
Which is pretty sad – considering that the guy won his sport’s signature event 15 months ago, and now has to get by mountain biking and signing autographs for handfuls of fans at local bike shops.
