Washington (40-33) has a three and a half game lead on the New York Mets in the National League East.
Orioles top Red Sox, 8-6: Matt Wieters hit his third homer, and Miguel Gonzalez got his sixth win of the season in an 8-6 Baltimore victory over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday.
Gonzalez (6-4) gave up four runs on eight hits in eight innings of work, striking out four and walking none.
Zach Britton notched his 21st save of the season.
