Virginia lost another game in which it had the edge in possession and a big advantage in shots, dropping a 2-1 decision to UNCG on Tuesday afternoon at Klöckner Stadium.

The loss extends the winless streak for UVA (2-4-3) to six games.

The Cavaliers last won on Aug. 29, a 5-0 victory over St. Joseph’s.

This time out, Virginia had possession for 55 percent of the game, and outshot UNCG (4-1-3) 17-7.

But it was the Spartans who got on the board first, in the 13th minute, as Yoshiya Okawa scored from inside the penalty area to give UNCG a 1-0 advantage.

Virginia got the equalizer in the 67th minute, when, off a free kick 15 yards outside the penalty area, Danny Mangarov arched his attempt to the far post, where Luc Mikula headed it back across the face of goal for a sliding Luke Burns to tap in for 1-1.

In the 86th minute of play, the Cavaliers were hit on the counterattack as Daniel Longo took advantage of a loose ball in the penalty area and finished his chance for 2-1.
