I don’t really give a hoot about the NBA Summer League (in fact I barely follow the NBA at all other than general news), but I am interested in how the UVA guys are doing. Any special insights into why Reece Beekman would only have played twice (one good game, one not so much) and then been on the bench with the DNP-coach’s decision?
Rick
I wish I had insight into whatever it is that is going on out there in Golden State with Beekman, who signed a two-way deal with the Warriors after the NBA Draft.
As Rick mentioned, Beekman had one good game, starting and scoring 10 points (3-of-7 FG, 2-of-3 3FG) in 21 minutes in a 105-66 Dubs’ win over the Miami Heat back on July 6, then one not so much, starting and going for four points (1-of-6 FG) in 24 minutes in a 92-68 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on July 7.
And since, nothing.
I’ve scoured the interwebs to see if there’s an injury issue, personality clash, did he maybe run over Steve Kerr’s dog, anything.
Since Beekman signed with the Warriors, the team picked up another guard on a two-way deal, Daeqwon Plowden, who is averaging 16.3 points per game, and they’re playing primarily two guys at the point in their Summer League games right now, Yuri Collins from Saint Louis (per game in the Summer League: 25.9 minutes, 6.0 points, 4.7 assists) and Santiago Vescovi from Tennessee (per game in the Summer League: 15.3 minutes, 1.0 points, 2.5 assists).
If I had to guess, and I guess, actually, I’m having to guess, in the absence of hard news, what’s going on here is, Beekman has some nagging minor injury, and the brass doesn’t want to push him.
