K-State lands Fishburne’s Tre’ Harris

Fishburne Military School guard Tre’ Harris made it official on Wednesday. After committing last month to Kansas State, Harris (6’5”, 180, Glen Carbon, Ill.) signed his National Letter of Intent to join the Wildcats and coach Bruce Weber.

Basketball is a family affair for Harris. His father, Robert Harris Jr., played D1 ball at Southeastern Oklahoma, his uncle, Jon Harris, played at Marquette and is an assistant coach at Tennessee, and his mother, LeAnn, was at D2 All-American at SIU-Edwardsville.

“Tre’ is a high-basketball IQ player, as you would expect with his background. He’s got a chance to play professionally. He’s going to do well at Kansas State. He understands Bruce Webber’s motion offense,” FMS postgrad coach ed huckaby said.

Harris had several offers from mid-majors out of high school, but decided on the postgrad year at Fishburne to see if he could get the interest from a bcs school that ultimately came from Weber and K-State.

“Fan support, the facilities, the level of competition, the coaches, players – a lot made me want to go there. Everything about the school, I really liked,” Harris said.

His father, on hand for Signing Day, was all smiles.

“It’s a huge day for us,” the elder Harris said. “The birth of your children, and all of our hard work and sacrifice, and to now get to this point, it’s really gratifying for us as a family. Kansas State really showed a genuine interest in him.”
