The Waynesboro Police Department arrested a Crimora man after he crashed his mom’s truck into a utility pole earlier Saturday while driving under the influence.
Sean Robert Sears, 38 years old, faces two misdemeanor traffic charges stemming from the Saturday afternoon crash in the 100 block of South Delphine Avenue.
At 1:15 p.m., officers and members of the Waynesboro Fire Department and Waynesboro First Aid Crew responded to the scene of a single vehicle crash that snapped a utility pole at its base. When first responders arrived, they found a trail of damage left by the 2007 Toyota Tacoma pick-up, belonging to Sears’s mother. In addition to the utility pole, two street signs were also cut down. Sears and the truck ended up about a quarter of a mile away in the 200 block of North Delphine Avenue.
Sears showed signs of drug intoxication and was subsequently arrested. He was uninjured in the crash.
Electricity to homes in the area was interrupted until Dominion Virginia Power was able to replace the pole three hours later. The vehicle was a total loss.
Sears was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs and Driving on a Suspended License.
