There was a thought that UVA Basketball alum Ty Jerome might be done as an NBA regular, with injuries being the main culprit.
The 2019 national champ is on the back end of a two-year deal that he signed with Cleveland in the summer of 2023, and he’s making the most of things to this early stage in the 2024-2025 season.
Through seven games, Jerome is averaging 9.9 points and 3.1 assists per game as the backup point guard for the Cavaliers, and is averaging 14.7 minutes per game off the bench.
Jerome, a 6’5” guard, has scored in double-digits in four of his seven games, the most recent being the 14 points in 16 minutes in Cleveland’s 134-110 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.
Jerome is shooting 57.1 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from three so far this season.
Availability has been the issue for Jerome, who only played in two games last season for Cleveland, and has not played more than the 48 games that he was in for Oklahoma City in 2021-2022.
A first-round pick of the Phoenix Suns in 2019, Jerome’s best season in the NBA to date was his 2020-2021 season in OKC, in which he averaged 10.7 points and 3.6 assists per game for the Thunder that year.
Jerome averaged 13.6 points and 5.5 assists for Virginia’s 2019 national champs.
