Help United Way Stuff-the-Bus

Contributors

The United Way of Greater Augusta kicks off its three-day Stuff-the-Bus project on Friday.

This year buses will be located at the Staunton and Waynesboro Wal-Marts. The United Way, Waynesboro city schools and UPS, along with other volunteers, will be working to help area children and youth arrive at school with the tools they need to be successful.

This event will concur with the annual Virginia Tax Free Weekend.

“Our agency and our community partners believe that this event is an important linchpin for the success of children in school. If they come to school prepared to learn they are more likely to be able to stay on target with their peers and continue in school successfully,” United Way Executive Director Cynthia Pritchard said.

Last year’s Stuff-the-Bus event saw over 9,000 items in school materials distributed to over 200 students.

This year school supplies will be distributed through area schools and subsidized housing complexes.

Buses and volunteers will be stationed in the parking lots of the Staunton and Waynesboro Wal-Marts Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

All school supplies, especially backpacks, binders, notebooks and calculators and other items on school material lists posted inside the stores by area schools, will be accepted.

For more information on Stuff-the-Bus and how you can contribute, contact the United Way of Greater Augusta at 540.885.1229. To volunteer for the event go to www.unitedwayga.org and click on the volunteer tab to go to the Greater Augusta Volunteer Center and register with the event through that website.

Leave Dianna Russini alone: Sportswriters, coaches, happen to like hot tubs

I’m totally on the side of Dianna Russini in this generated controversy over her being caught holding hands, hugging and lounging in a hot tub with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel. Seriously, what sportswriter isn’t holding hands, hugging and lounging in hot tubs with coaches they cover? Just last week, for instance, Ryan Odom,...
