Retired James Madison University Alternative Fuel Vehicle Lab coordinator Randy Poag was recently inducted into the Nashville Auto Diesel College Hall of Fame for his contributions to JMU’s pioneering work in biodiesel and alternative fuels.
“Randy’s guidance in the AFV lab was integral to the success of many projects,” said Christie-Joy Brodrick Hartman, the former Alternative Fuel Vehicle Program co-director and executive director of JMU’s Institute for Stewardship of the Natural World. “His professionalism, technical knowledge and teaching abilities helped our students conduct valuable biodiesel and alternative fuels projects. Randy’s collaborative work with scholars and students resulted in adoption of biodiesel fuel at JMU and set the stage for adoption by the City of Harrisonburg,” Hartman said.
Poag is a 1966 graduate of the Nashville Auto Diesel College and a Vietnam War veteran. He joined JMU as a repair technician in 1977. He became the coordinator of the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Lab in 1998.
Poag retired in 2005.
