Following the JMU program’s 2012-13 Colonial Athletic Association championship, the four seniors integral to the achievement plus another recent graduate have each moved on to represent James Madison among the professional ranks with several seeing early success.
CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player A.J. Davis was drafted by the NBA Developmental League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce in the D-League Draft on Nov. 1. On Thursday, Nov. 21 he was officially listed on the opening day roster for the Skyforce heading into Friday night’s season opener against the Reno Bighorns. Davis is one of three rookies listed among the 10 active players on the roster. He led JMU with 12.2 points per game last year, including 20.7 points in the Dukes’ three games in the CAA Championship.
On Nov. 7, Rayshawn Goins made his professional debut with Regatas Lima, a squad based in Peru’s capital city. JMU’s second-leading scorer with 12.1 points per game a year ago picked up where he left off with 28 points and nine rebounds in 22 minutes in his first official game. He broke through with 34 points and 14-for-18 shooting from the field as recently as Thursday, Nov. 21, lifting his five-game average to 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Devon Moore is currently playing basketball in Hungary for BC Kormend. Through seven games in the Hungarian League, Moore has started each game and played an average of 30.4 minutes. In his most recent game on November 16, Devon scored a season high, 19 points, going a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line, with five assists. On average, Moore has 11.1 points, 3.0 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steal per game. Moore also plays on Kormend’s EuroChallenge squad, which competes transnationally as organized by FIBA Europe. He posted a professional career-high of 21 points in a 103-99 win on Tuesday. Moore set JMU’s all-time assists record with 502 while also averaging 11.1 points as a senior.
Alioune Diouf is currently playing for Terres Froides Basket in France as the squad’s starting shooting guard. He averaged 4.9 points and 3.5 rebounds while starting 30 of the 35 games he played as a senior with the Dukes.
Recent JMU graduate James Millen, who never had the opportunity to suit up for the Dukes, made the final cut for the London Lightning basketball team of the National Basketball League of Canada in Ontario. Millen has averaged 13.8 minutes per game through six games with two starts. He is shooting 31 percent from the field, 33 percent from beyond the arc, and averages 1.5 rebounds per game. The London Lightning (3-3) have won the past two league championships under former NBA star Michael Ray Richardson.
